Guzman Energy – exclusive energy partner to Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) in Taos – debuted two brand new scoreboards inside Jicarita Peñasco Gymnasium prior to the start of Peñasco High School’s homecoming Jan. 28.
In February 2017, Guzman Energy announced the exclusive partnership with KCEC to generate renewable energy to cover 100 percent of the daytime load for the northern New Mexico counties of Taos, Colfax and Rio Arriba – saving the co-op’s 300,00 members $50-$70 million during the next 10 years. The donation of the custom-built, energy-efficient wireless scoreboard set comes on the heels of Guzman Energy awarding more than $20,000 in scholarships to Taos area students.
While Guzman Energy managing director, Jeff Heit was delivering his presentation speech before a near-capacity crowd gathered for homecoming activities, the new scoreboards displayed 70 on the home score and 50 on the visitor’s side – symbolic of the estimated savings to the region as a result of the Guzman-KCEC partnership.
The Lady Panthers and the Panthers played against the visiting Mesa Vista boys and girls basketball team, and the homecoming queen and king were named in the afternoon gathering.
The new units each weigh 105 pounds and were constructed in Des Moines, Iowa.
