THR33FOLD sent out some of our social media team to experience Social Media Day South Florida and get to know the community and learn from its peers. Mashable named #SMDaySFL as one of the 6 Social Media Day events to attend this year and we were excited to be a part of it! With over 300+ attendees and 25 speakers, there was a lot of info to take in. Adam Boalt, CEO of LiveAnswer, kicked off the day with some great bits of information about Miami and the beautiful city we reside in. He said, “According to a Kauffman report, “Miami is #2 in Startup Activity.” Another great thing said was, “What we take away from today will pave the way for the future of social.” With so much said and taught on Social Media Day, we have to agree that the future of social is in our hands. Below are some key takeaways that we know will help pave the way:
ADAM BOALT – LIVEANSWER
Though this seems like common sense to most social media marketers, it needs to be repeated. As social media becomes (is) the main form for communication for users, consumers and brands alike, we need to keep the two way conversation open between both parties. “Brands were investing to get likes, but it’s about building a strategy that meets your objectives and it’s not about the brand, it’s about building a relationship with customers.” We at THR33FOLD have taught our clients that social media is really a two way conversation with a screen in the middle!
RYAN STEWART – WEBRIS
Ryan came in to speak social media, but was not a expert by his own admission. However, he’s a truth seeker, cutting the bull and getting down to what really mattered when looking at analytics. He explained that no matter what, “Everything must drive towards your goals. Figure out why you’re on social media and drive towards it.” The mantra, “test, analyze, adjust” really comes down to being able to adapt if something is not working and not being on a network for the sake of being on it. It was refreshing to hear this from someone not in the social media space, as this is something we teach and preach! We know that the only way to be better and be successful, is not to do the same thing and expect the same outcome. You need to learn from your mistakes and adjust from there!
ADRIANA SERNA – BLUE COMPASS GROUP
“It takes considerable time and considerable effort to pool talented people and their communities together,” Serna explains. We agree and know that it takes strategy and goals in order to give influencers the right tools to talk about your clients in a way that is successful. And part of success means to put in the hustle. Help with the hustle by sharing knowledge, as it only betters the social media community!
LISA D SPARKS – VERITY CONTENT
“Content isn’t about what you write…Content is about what the person says after they read what you write,” Sparks concludes. It’s funny how we write for the brand/client and not for the ones who read it. If you are writing/designing for your audience, you can make it go further and repurpose over the course of time! Now that’s engaging content.
Overall, we thought Social Media Day South Florida was a great success, full of knowledgeable people worth following and getting to know in the social media community. If you were there, what were some key takeaways for you? Go to the comments and let us know!
